Multipurpose event hall in Latvia

Project Overview

The works were performed for a separate building - a universal pavilion made almost entirely of wood. The hall was intended to hold musical and speech events for a small audience. The complexity of the project was determined by the unusual shape of the hall, which didn't have a single flat surface: the walls flowed smoothly into the ceiling, forming a wave-like structure. One of the walls was entirely glazed. The ceiling was supposed to carry a large cloud of tubes with embedded spotlights. Due to the hall's non-standard shape and interior elements we carried out additional acoustic research and utilized the "scale acoustic modeling" approach with the exact miniature copy of the hall.

Project execution

Computer simulation of the hall's acoustics, taking into account the finish proposed in the architectural design. Development of recommendations for the correction of the surfaces finish.

Laboratory tests of sound-absorbing properties of suspended ceiling structure ("cloud" of light tubes) to be used in calculations.

Creation of an acoustic scale model of the room (1:20 scale model), measurements with a spark gap and a ¼" measuring microphone, calibration of the computer model based on measurement results.

Calculation of the sound insulation for the internal barriers of the hall. Development of recommendations to correct the composition of the barriers to provide the target noise protection.

Development of the solution for a sound amplification system. Electro-acoustic calculations on the computer model.

Results

Developed a comprehensive solution for architectural acoustics, the soundproofing and electro-acoustic concept of the sound reinforcement system for the hall.
